Karti Chidambaram had appeared before the Enforcement Directorate today. The former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram appeared before the ED on Thursday alleged in the connection to INX media money laundering case. Earlier, two days back the ED had conducted a raid at the Delhi and Chennai premises of Karti Chidambaram under INX media case. Karti Chidambaram was summoned by the agency to appear before the Investigating officer of the INX media case. However, the authorised representatives of Karti Chidambaram had already met investigation officer. But the central agency asked him to appear personally as the agency wanted to ask some questions directly from Karti Chidambaram.
The Enforcement Directorate registered a case against Karti Chidambaram and two others in May 2017. Last year, the Enforcement Case Information Report registered FIR against Karti P. Chidambaram along with two others. The ED registered FIR against them after the CBI’s complaints. The CBI had also registered a complaint against Karti Chidambaram and the directors of INX Media such as Peter and Indrani Mukerjea. The complaint against them lodged under the (PMLA) Prevention of Money Laundering Act provisions. The registered FIR against three of them under money laundering case of INX media had also included that Rs 3.5 crore was paid by INX Media to influence Foreign Investment Promotion Board decision.
According to the sources, the CBI has charged FIR against Karti Chidambaram, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea on the criminal conspiracy charges, receiving illegal gratification, influencing public servants, cheating, corruption and criminal misconduct, last year. However, the directors of INX media Indrani and Peter are currently in Jail for the case of murdering their own daughter Sheena Bora. The INX media bribing case had also carried out various raids at the premises of Karti Chidambaram. Now, today he has finally appeared before the ED.
