INX Media case: Karti Chidambaram gets bail from Delhi High Court

Karti Chidambaram, the son of P. Chadambaram has been granted bail by the Delhi High Court after spending 22 days in the custody of CBI. He had been arrested by the police on March 1, while he was arriving from London. He was arrested at the Chennai airport. The CBI stated that he was not cooperating with them in  the case, and they had to keep him in the custody for further investigation.  Chidambaram has been accused by the CBI of getting Rs. 300 crore in television company INX Media in exchange for bribes that he provided  in 2007.

Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, who are the co-owners of INX media company had testified against Chidambaram and his father P. Chidambaram that they’d recieved bribes from him. They’re in jail, currently, as they’ve been accused of murdering Indrani’s daughter, Sheena Bora.

Chidambaram was also interviewed alongside Indrani and Peter in Mumbai, before being brought back to Delhi for further questioning. P. Chidambaram has already attacked political parties for seeking political vendetta through the arrest of his son. He has been present in the hearings of Karti’s case. The Supreme court is going to listen to an appeal by Karti next month, which is in relation to an order that was passed by the Madras High Court, refusing to cancel the CBI’s case. This will surely come as a relief for him, as he has already filed an anticipatory bail plea against CBI and ED in a case which is related to the FIPB clearance to M/S communication which has services ltd in the Aircel maxis case.
