Guru Purnima 2018: Significance,date,timing and celebrations

Guru Purnima is celebrated in the honor of the Guru followed by the spiritual activities. This day marks the first peak of the lunar cycle after the solar cycle. It also marks as the Hindu month of Ashadha coincides with full moon in June and July as per Gregorian Calendar. This year Guru Purnima is falling on 27th July and eclipse will last for 1 hour and 43 minutes.According to the Hindu Calendar,the community of Hindus and Jains pay respect and celebrate the goodness of their Gurus and teachers. On this day, the disciples offer worship and pay respect to their spiritual Guru (guide). It is said that on Guru Purnima, the Guru’s guidance is more active than any other day.

This festival holds great important for Indian academics and scholars. In Nepal people offer flowers and sweets to their teachers. The titthi for this year purnima will begin at 11:16 Pm on July 26 and will end at 01:50 Am on July 28. The Guru Purnima is celebrated in many different ways, Some followers devote their day in offering prayers to universe and their spiritual gurus and teachers including Mangal Aarti. This ritual is also followed by fast and refraining from the dishes like rice, cereal and salt through out the day. Some people also keep Satya Narayan Vrat on the Guru Purnima.

This day is also celebrated as occasion when Lord Shiva became the first Guru after he brought the transmission of yoga to the Saptarishis. It plays an important role in the Yogic tradition and transition. People meditate under the full moon to gain positive energy in on this auspicious day. To enhance prosperity people decorate their house with flowers garlands, mango leaves and tulsi, also rich dry fruits dishes are offered to the gods on this day. This holy celebration is considered to celebrate peace and positive energy all over the world.
