Google Doodle celebrates the 115th birthday of the Kamladevi Chattopadhyay

Google Doodle is celebrating the birthday of Kamladevi Chattopadhyay, a feminist freedom fighter. She was a social reformer, and she participated in the freedom struggle of the country. She was born in Mangalore, and she had participated in the freedom struggle. She also contributed to the Independence of the country. She worked for the social refugees after the freedom struggle of the country. Kamladevi Chattopadhyay was a driving force for setting up of key cultural institutions in India including National School of Drama, World Crafts Council and Sangeet Natak Academy. She was a social worker, and she contributed a lot to the country.

She was born on April 3, 1903. She lost her father at a very small age of 7 years. She got married at a very young age of 14 years, and her husband died at a very young age of 16 years. Kamaldevi studied at London. She joined Indian National Congress in 1927 and then gradually she became the first Indian woman to be arrested by British for entering Bombay Stock Exchange and sell packets of contraband salt in 1930. In 1926, she met the founder of All India Women’s Congress, Margaret Cousins; she contested for a seat in the Madras Legislative assembly, where she lost by just 55 votes.

She called Mahatma Gandhi that women would also march with him in the freedom struggle of the country. In today’s doodle, Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay is shown surrounded by the bhangra, the sitar, the sarangi, Kathak dance, Chhau dance, embroidery, basket weaving, and Kathaputli which are some of India’s traditional objects which she sought to protect. She encouraged women to come up and participate in the freedom struggle of the country. She was a social worker. She had developed many culture reforms. She inspired many people to fight with the Indian leaders for the struggle of the country.
