Goods train derails in Odisha

On a day India got a new Railway Minister, a goods train derailed in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Sunday, affecting train services for some time, officials said. No one was hurt in the accident.

Official sources said the cement-laden train from Jharsuguda was on its way to Cuttack station when a wagon derailed near the Sikharpur level crossing.

The East Coast Railway said an accident relief train reached the spot from Khurda and steps were taken to put the derailed wagon back on track.

The accident led to three trains getting delayed and stranded at different stations for some time.

Earlier on Sunday, Piyush Goyal took charge of the Railway Ministry from Suresh Prabhu, who has offered to resign after a train accident in Uttar Pradesh left 23 people dead.
