Ghaziabad plants 30,000 saplings along Hindon river

Over 30,000 saplings were planted along the banks of the Hindon river here during a massive green drive here on Thursday.

The campaign took place in Ator Nangla village and was inaugurated by Meerut Divisional Commissioner Prabhat Kumar.

A total of 10,000 saplings were planted by the Horticulture Department of Ghaziabad Development Authority, 10,000 by the Municipal Corporation, 5,000 by the Forest Department, and 5,000 by the district administration.

Some non-government organisations and school children also participated in the campaign.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the drive in all seven districts through which the Hindon river passes. Each district has been given a target of planting 30,000 saplings.

After Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Shamli, Baghpat and Gautam Budh Nagar districts will follow in taking up the plantation drive, said GDA Horticulture Officer Govind Singh.
