Eight hurt as Lucknow court lift crashes

Eight persons, including some lawyers, were injured on Monday when an elevator at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court here suddenly came crashing down from the fourth floor, police said.

All the injured have been admitted to the Balrampur Hospital and the condition of one is critical.

After the lift crashed, security personnel and lawyers gathered had a tough time breaking open the elevator doors to rescue those inside.

The District Judge and the CJM rushed to the accident site and oversaw the rescue. A probe has been ordered into the incident by the district judge.

Lawyers said the lift had been installed just two years ago and the accident could have happened due to overloading.

Emergency services at the Balrampur Hospital here were hampered as hundreds of lawyers laid siege to the emergency section, causing great inconvenience to the patients.
