However, there was a neck-to-neck comptetion between NSUI Sunny Chhillar and ABVP’s Ankiv Baisoya. But at last ABVP managed to win this DUSU Battle and retain the post of DUSU President 2018 after 2016. ABVP candidate Ankiv Basoya President, Shakti Singh Vice President and Jyoti Choudhary have won the joint secretary post. Akash Chaudhary of NSUI has won the secretary Post. - Major student wings contesting the DUSU polls are:
RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)
Congress’ student wing – National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and
Students Federation of India (SFI) of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)).
A few hours earlier, the counting of votes was stopped when the “EVM machines were reported disturbed” and the organizations had made a ruckus. After the disruption in EVM machines, Congress student organization NSUI demanded fresh elections while the RSS student organization ABVP asked to resume the counting. But throwing a stiff challenge to them this time will be the new alliance between All India Students’ Association, a far-Left organization, and the Aam Aadmi Party’s students’ wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti. The elections went off peacefully on Wednesday with a turnout of around 44.46% — slightly more than 43 % recorded last year.
Latest round of counting shows NSUI’s Sunny Chillar leading for the presidential post.
