Dhanteras 2017: Puja Muhurat and Vidhi

Dhanteras/Dhantryodashi is the first day of five days of Diwali festival. It falls on the 13th day or tryodashi of the Hindu Kartik month. According to Hindu mythology on the day of Dhanteras goddess Lakshmi came out along with Lord Kuber (God of wealth) during the churning of the milky ocean. Worship of Lord Kuber is known to be auspicious on Dhanteras. Lakshmi puja should be done on dhanteras during pradosh Kaal which starts after sunset when Sthair Lagana prevails. Some people observe fast on dhanteras and do a puja in the evening after sunset while placing seven grains in front of goddess Lakshmi’s idol and seek her blessings. Devotees prepare panchamrit ( a mixture of honey, ghee, sugar, yogurt, and milk) and kheer and puri as a Prashad for Goddess Lakshmi on dhanteras.
