Dera violence: Death toll rises to 38, Gurmeet Ram Rahim sentencing today

Two more people succumbed to their injuries bringing the death toll to reach a mark of 38, after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Panchkula in terms of death toll has been the worst hit, with 32 deaths being reported there. Six persons have dies in Sirsa town, where the Dera Sacha Sauda Sect headquarter is located.

Haryana Director General of Police B.S. Sandhu, who has been on the brunt of political circles blaming him in his inability to stop violence in the state, said in a statement that out of 38 people , 24 have been identified and post-mortem has been conducted on the bodies.

He said 11 people each from Haryana and Punjab and 1 from Rajasthan and Uttarakhand have been identified. 264 persons were injured , out of which 17 were admitted in General Hospital in Panchkula, which included three police personnel. Special court headed by a Judge would be setup inside Rohtak Jail, which will pronounce the quantum of punishment for the rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim today. Due to security reasons Judge would be flown to Jail.
