IT department submits charge sheet against P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram

The income tax department has submitted a charge sheet against Ex-Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, his son, Karti Chidambarma, daughter in Law, Srinidhi and wife Nalini, according to the Black money act. The charge sheet has been filed because the family has not yet disclosed its foreign assets. The complaints have been filed in a Chennai court, and under Section 50 of the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act 2015. The family has lucrative property in foreign countries, beginning from Cambridge, where it holds a property that is worth Rs 5.37 crore, property worth Rs 80 lakh assets worth Rs 3.28 crore in the US.

However, these details have not been disclosed by the family to the tax officials. A notice had been sent to Kari Chidambaram in relation to the evasion of these details, but he had alleged that he won’t be join the probe because he had already submitted all the details related to his assets to the office, and that parallel proceedings isn’t possible if the details were submitted to a different tax department. His assets, however, are in violation of the law that was passed in 2015, which seeks to stop corruption through black money.

Karti has been out on bail for the INS media case, for which he was arrested few months back from the Chennai airport, as he was traveling back from London. He was arrested based on the testimony given by Indrani Mukerjee, and on the charges that he had received 1 million from them to avoid income tax probe. He has refuted such claims, although, Indrani and Peter have been asserted that it is indeed factual, and the CBI has been accumulating evidence that can be shown against the politician in the court.
