Delhi Metro violet line disrupted

The Delhi Metro services on the Violet Line came to a standstill for more than an hour owing to a technical issue according to ANI and this is being rectified. This led to hundreds of commuters facing trouble on their way to work on friday morning during work rush hours. The Violet line of the Delhi metro runs between the Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar. This is not the first time the Delhi metro services have faced disruptions on technical grounds. In early 2017, the trains lost contact with the Control centre on multiple occasions because of power cuts and this led to services on the Blue Line being affected for almost 2 days in a row.

There are also rumours floating around that the Violet line disruption was not because of a technical snag. The real reason is rumored to be a suicide attempt at the Mewala Maharajpur Railway station in the early hours of Friday, which led to the metro services being affected. No confirmations have been received about this incident yet.

The Delhi metro has been hitting headlines ever since the onset of this week because of hike in fares. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the hike and stated the reasons for the same as it being necessary for meeting costs. They said the input costs are high and to continue providing world-class services, it is necessary for them to increase the fares. Apparently, this decision was arrived at after a meeting of Delhi Metro Fare fixation Committee on monday.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal expressed his disappointment with the decision. The last metro fare hike took place in May this year with the minimum tariff being increased to Rs.10 from the earlier minimum of Rs.8.

An official statement is awaited by the DMRC, citing the real reason behind the disruption.
