Delhi High Court extends the interim protection to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram till 1 August 2018

The Delhi High Court has extended the interim protection for senior Congress leader P Chidamabaram till 1 August. He can’t be arrested by the police forces till August 10 2018 in the Aircel-Maxis Case. On 31 May, the Court had ordered P. Chidambaram to be present for investigation, to cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate. Chidambaram’s name has been involved in two controversial cases from his term as the Finance Minister in previous decade, in connection to the Aircel-Maxis and INX Media case.

The matter of controversy is that FIPB had granted clearance to both schemes, however, now some irregularities have been found in the records, which need to be resolved through investigation.

P. Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidamabram was arrested earlier this year from Chennai airport, while he was returning from a trip to England. He was taken into custody based on the testimonies by Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, who are currently serving time for alleged murder of their daughter, Sheena Bora. Karti had allegedly taken 10 lakhs in bribe from the Mukerjea’s to get the approval from his father for their company. He is currently out on bail. The FIPB clearance was granted to the INX media company at a sum of Rs 305 crores. This is surely a controversial situation, and even Chidambaram’s wife, Nalini has been called for a interview. P Chidambaram is one of the better known political leaders in the country and his involvement in the scams only shows that the decay of corruption that has gotten inside the system.
