Cyclone Ockhi updates: Mumbai government shuts schools; Gujarat is on high alert

Cyclone Ockhi reached to Mumbai after battering the parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep islands. Heavy rains lashed Mumbai today in the morning. Thus, the Maharashtra government announced to shut down schools across the Mumbai city and the neighbouring districts of Maharashtra. In the southern states, Ockhi Cyclone took away the lives of 20 people along with massive destruction. As per the reports, Now Ockhi Cyclone lies centred in the Arabian Sea just 390 km away from Surat. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the government of Gujarat to take measures to control Cyclone Ockhi.

The Cyclone Ockhi is very severe cyclone that had destroyed a huge amount of property in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep islands. As per the reports around 1,540 people including fisherman were get affected by the Cyclone Ockhi. The agencies have taken help from the Naval ships, helicopters, Coastguard personnel to rescue people.

Today, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that Cyclone Ockhi is expected to affect Gujarat after Mumbai. So he appealed all of his BJP party’s volunteers to focus on helping out people from this severe cyclone. He asked his all-party volunteers to devote themselves to providing possible assistance to Gujarat. The Cyclone Ockhi has turned into the severe cyclone led to this Mumbai government took various steps to fight. Also, the disaster management unit of Mumbai advised people to not to visit on the beaches.
