Congress demands to roll back disability tax

The enforcement of GST (goods and services tax) impact was noticed just after the two days of commencement. Today Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said the NDA government is insensitive towards our most vulnerable section and demands the Centre to roll back this disability tax under the new tax regime of goods and services reform. Vice President Rahul Gandhi wrote on his Twitter page “GST on disability aids like wheelchairs & Braille typewriters, once again shows this Govt’s complete insensitivity twds our most vulnerable”. He further added that the Congress Party demands a full roll back of this ‘disability tax’ that will put millions of our disabled people through further hardship.

the Indian National Congress overflowed with a number of tweets for demanding the rollback of the disability tax. They said that Modi Government has abandoned those who need its support as the GST on Braille typewriters, papers, carriages for the disabled wheelchairs and other assistive devices have been fixed at rates varying between 5% to 18%. As per the rates that have been approved by the GST Council on Braille, typewriters is 18%, on Braille paper is 12%, 5% on carriages for the disabled, wheelchairs and assistive devices and 12% on the hearing aids.

This new tax regime has a dubious impact on entrepreneurs as many of them has come up with the strikes and protest. Prior to the news tax regime, the Central government has decided to fix the tax rates for 1,211 items under the four slabs starting from the 5% and ending at the 28% which includes 60% goods. Goods and services tax is levied with four taxes 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.
