Cabinet approves the India- Somalia and India-Cyprus pact today

Today, the Cabinet which chaired by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has approved various development agreements. The Cabinet has approved the agreement between India- Somalia on the transfer of sentenced persons. It approves the signing and subsequent ratification of the agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons between India and Somalia. According to the official statement, this pact with Somalia will facilitate the Indian prisoners who are imprisoned in Somalia to be near to their families, for serving remaining part of their sentence shall facilitate their social rehabilitation.

The transfer of sentenced person to their native country will facilitate their social rehabilitation as India has signed bilateral agreements on transfer of sentenced persons with Mauritius, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Brazil, France, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Australia, Bangladesh, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, UAE, Italy, Turkey, Maldives, Thailand, Russian Federation, Vietnam, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Qatar, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Bahrain and Estonia.

Cabinet also approved the agreement between India and Cyprus on Merchant Shipping which signed in April 2017. According to the official statement, The signing of this pact will pave the way for cooperation in eliminating any hindrances which may hamper the development of the sea trade between the two nations. This agreement seeks to enhance cooperation for employment, improvement of work conditions and welfare seafarers employed on each other’s vessels. It will also encourage the participation in the transport of goods between the countries and also from third countries.

Along with the approval of these agreements, Cabinet has also approved some development proposals such as Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), ex-post facto approval to MoU between BIS and MLINDI, Mali, MoU between EXIM Bank and Export-Import Bank of Korea approval, the approval of development of four-laning from end of Pandoh Bypass to Takoli section of NH-21 in Himachal Pradesh and  it also approved the transfer of IISWC land at Vasad to NHAI, for extension and 6-laning of Ahmedabad – Vadodara Highway on NH-8.
