Bareilly: Union Minister of State for Finance Santosh Gangwar has made a controversial statement on the cases of rape. He said, “India is a big country. If there are incidents of one or two misdeeds, then we should not make any kind of brouhaha about this. Such incidents [rape cases] are the unfortunate situation… But sometimes you can’t stop them,“. Mr Gangwar also said,” The government is actively taking action everywhere. Whatever is necessary, will be done, the government is taking the steps. Before this, Hema Malini, MP from Mathura, had said before this on Saturday that “There were crimes with children and women before, but at present, they are getting more publicity.”

The meeting of the Union Cabinet was held on Saturday. In this meeting, the Government has got the permission to bring the ordinance for an amendment to the Prevention of Child Sexual Abstinence Act (Poxo Act). The Poxo Act provides for the provision of the death penalty for the culprit of juvenile imprisonment up to 12 years of age. – On Sunday, President Ramnath Kobind has also given permission to this Ordinance.

Union Minister Santosh Gangwar gave this statement in Bareilly. His statement has come at a time when there is constant news of rape from across the country including Unnao and Kathua Kand. As well as his statement, a few hours earlier, the Central Government has approved the proposal of a 12-year-old girl to be hanged for the rape.

In accordance with the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance 2018, new accelerated courts will be constituted to deal with such cases, and all the police stations and hospitals will be provided special foreclosure kits for investigation of rape cases. Referring to the Ordinance, officials said that strict punishment is required for the culprits especially in cases of rape of girls under 16 and 12 years of age. It has been said in this Ordinance that the punishment of the death sentence to the culprits of rape of girls below 12 years of age has been stated in this ordinance.
