Bihar’s governor Ram Nath Kovind is NDA’s Presidential candidate for 2017 President of India elections

Current Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind has been declared NDA (National Democratic Alliance) candidate for President of India election, to be held this year. Speculations were rife earlier of either Sumitra Mahajan , Lal Krishna Advani or some bigwig being declared as a presidential nominee.

BJP has played a trump card by fielding a schedule case candidate , who is well respected and is not so well known to pose any political debate. This move might have made the opposition dumbstruck as they will find it challenging to oppose a Dalit leader. This also shows how prevalently, Castes and politics in India are dependent on each other.

BJP president Amit Shah thanked party members and alliance leader who congratulated on Kovind being selected as a President Nominee. Interestingly, Nitish Kumar praised Kovind for his unbiased work and is expected to support his candidature
