ASEAN-India commemorative summit: PM Modi to address plenary session

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the plenary session of the India-ASEAN commemorative summit. The ASEAN summit is going to be attended by 10 ASEAN countries leaders. As per the reports, the 10 ASEAN summit leaders will also be the part of tomorrow’s Republic Day parade. Today’s ASEAN summit will mark the 25 years of Indo-ASEAN ties. According to the sources, all the leaders have arrives at New Delhi to attend ASEAN summit. The leaders of Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia will be attending the summit.

According to the reports, President Ram Nath Kovind will host a banquet in honour of ASEAN leaders. The summit will be followed by the ASEAN leaders retreat. PM Modi will expand the plenary session of the India-ASEAN commemorative summit today in New Delhi before ASEAN leaders. Today, India will commemorate 25 years of its ties with the Southeast Asian nations. However, India’s ties with Southeast Asia nations are dated back for more than 2,000 years. ASEAN basically stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations, it is a summit where the strategic regional policies, trade and other issues of Southeast Asian Nations get discussed.

In Delhi today commuters or the office goers may face difficulties while travelling. As the vehicles on the central Delhi had stooped because of the ASEAN summit. So, the traffic would snarl over other routes of Delhi. The venue where the ASEAN summit is commemorating is the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in Chanakyapuri and the Taj Diplomatic Enclave hotel on Sardar Patel Marg. Yesterday, PM Modi met Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Ahead of the summit, PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with three ASEAN nations such as Myanmar, Vietnam and Philippines, will also discuss some regional issues.
