The Supreme court today said that an officer who has been accused, or is under the cloud for his actions, cannot be a part of the investigation in the Aircel Maxis case. It has given the responsibility to the Government, to decide if the investigating officer should still continue to work on the case. The name of the officer is Rajeshwar Singh, and he has been accused of holding disproportionate assets, by P Chidambaram. Justices Arun Mishra and SK Kaul, who presided over the bench, have said that since he is an officer, he is to be held accountable for his actions. The court took the decision because the case is a matter of national security, and sensitive. Additional Solicitor General Vikramjit Banerjee, has said that the court is going to investigate Rajeshwar and the charges that have been made against him.
The Government has ensured the Court that it is not going to protect anyone in the case, and investigation in the Aircel Maxis case is going to continue without any hindrances. Rajeshwar has in turn filed a compliant against Rajneesh Kapoor, who filed the petition against him.
P Chidambaram has been involved in the case, but has also gotten immunity from the court till July 10 and can’t be arrested by the police in relation with the case. He has denied that he had any relation with the case. He was the Finance Minister of India when the Aircel Maxis was granted clearance in the investment deal. P Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram has also been involved in INX media scam, and was arrested by the police in the beginning of the year while he was returning from England. He is out on bail.
