Aircel Maxis Case, P Chidambaram receives relief till July 10 2018

A Delhi Court had provided protection to Congress Leader and former Union minister, P. Chidambaram, hence he can’t be arrested by the police in the Aircel Maxis case till July 10 2018. Chidambaram had applied for protection from arrest in the case last month. The Enforcement Directorate, in turn has asked the court for more time, to file a reply against the arguments that have been made by Chidambaram. The enforcement directorate and The central beau re of investigation are probing the case for foreign investment clearance that was given to Aircel Maxis, during which time period, Chidambaram was Finance Minister of India, working for the Congress-UPA government. The Mauritius-based Global Communication Services Holdings, which works as a subsidory of Aircel Maxis, had asked for a approval of 800 million dollars.

The Cabinet Ministry, on Economic Affairs or CCEA, chaired by the Prime Minister of India is supposed to give the approval in such matter, but in this instance, it was given forth by the Finance Ministry.

The court will heart the case on July 10. It is also likely to hear the case on anticipatory bail of Karti Chidambaram. He is the son of P Chidambaram, and was arrested in the beginning of the year, for his involvement in the INX media case. Karti was arrested at Chennai airport, while he was returning from London, based on the testimonies of Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea. The husband and wife are serving time for the charges of the murder of their daughter, Sheena Bora.
