Velaikkaran has had great word of mouth behind it and critics garnered the film with astonishing reviews hence it is on it’s way to become one of the most successful film of the year in terms return of investment. Story of the film appealed to audience on a gut level as food industry and corruption inside it affects everyone from any strata of the society. Velaikkaran is still running great at the cinemas earning hefty amount of eyeballs and it might end up becoming Sivakarthikeyan’s biggest hit of all time.

Velaikkaran was made and release on the budget of 28 crores and got approx 500 screens worldwide. For a film of this budget, 500 screens is never enough but it was released with Tiger Zinda Hai which took most of the screens in the country and western market is booming with films right now with having about 10 films running at once of their own. Nonethless Velaikkaran had the subtle opening of 5.50 crores on Friday and due to strong word of mouth the collections grew on 5.75 crores. On Sunday film increased it’s collectons a little bit more and got 5.93 crores.

It wasn’t until Monday when Velaikkaran saw it’s biggest day when it sold tickets worth of 6.90 crores as Monday was also a holiday. From the fifth day film started to keep it subtle and earned about 1.50 crores everyday. Velaikkaran was already sitting on the profit lottery before the release as it sold satellite rights in Tamil Nadu for a whooping 36 crores. Velaikkaran not only recovered it’s budget with satellite rights but also made a profit of about 6 crores. Presence of Faahad in the film gave it a good kick start in Kerala box-office and Sivakarthikeyan is rapidly growing to become on the most bankable star of Tamil cinema. Most of the credit for film’s success goes to Mohan Raja for his phenomenal direction.
