This year’s Eid release Tubelight is off to a sluggish start at the box office. This Salman Khan starrer which hit cinema screens on friday June 23, has managed to rake in approximately 65 crores at the domestic box office over its first weekend. The film failed to experience a significant growth in business on Sunday when it collected 22.45 crore after a 21 crore Day 1 and Day 2. Tubelight directed by Kabir Khan, is the emotional tale of Laxman (Salman Khan), a childlike simpleton who shares a close bond with his brother Bharat, who joins the Indian Army and goes missing during the 1962 Sino- Indian war. The film showcases Laxman’s hardships when he is left alone, how he deals with his loss and how his unshakable faith helps him to survive till his beloved brother is eventually back. Shah Rukh Khan is seen in a charming cameo in the first half of the film.
Tubelight has not managed to receive the roaring welcome at the box office that is associated with a Salman Khan release, especially when ‘Bhai’ arrives on Eid. The film’s unimpressive soundtrack, lack of a famous female lead, absence of a romantic parallel story in addition to the slow pace of the film seem like the drawbacks that have led to this lukewarm reception to the film.
