Shahrukh Khan to replace Aamir Khan in ‘Salute’ ?

Apparently, Shahrukh Khan will be replacing Aamir Khan in Rakesh Sharma biopic ‘Salute’. Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian astronaut to go in space and the biopic has been in the wings for a while now. Aamir Khan was attached to project for the longest time as it was going to be his next film after Thugs of Hindostan but he might be committing all his time for a dear project. Apparently, Aamir wants to make a five part film by the name of Mahabharata and it would take around 10 years for him to be able to.

Due to some other commitment, Aamir had to pass the role but seeing that it is an important and intelligent film, he went to his superstar friend Shahrukh Khan and urged him to look into the project. It is not confirmed as of yet if Shahrukh has committed to the film because he has not announced anything after ‘Zero’ which is still in production as it is a massive budget. Speculations are that Shahrukh might finally start shooting for Don 3 after Zero, as the part 2 was released way back in 2011.

Don 3 will be directed by Farhan Akhtar though he has not confirmed the production yet. Since Salute is a space film, it will be a massive budget and genuinely requires a bankable star to pull off the film or else the budget might not be recovered on box office. On top of it Salute is period and it is set in 1980’s which comes with it’s own production challenges. Mahesh Mathai has been yearning to make this film for the longest time now and it looks as if his passion project will finally come to life. Indian cinema has opened up to space films with Tik Tik Tik in Tamil being the first and Chanda Mama Door Ke starring Sushant Rajput might be the second.
