Shahid Kapoor walked proud to the stage of Dada Saheb Phalke Awards where he was given the Best actor award for his outstanding performance in Padmaavat. Shahid’s act was applause worthy certainly as he was extraordinary in his portrayal of Maharawal Ratan Singh. It’s the first time when Shahid walked on a Sanjay Leela Bhansali and still managed to pass through the unbelievable pressure and expectations that he demands. Shahid participated straight into his biggest project and eased his acting into it like he was born to play this one role in his lifetime.
Shahid has given some fantastic performances in his almost two decade long career such as Haider, Kaminey and has received overwhelming amount of awards. His act in Padmaavat was one of valor and ethics which is not the easiest thing to sell in this dark world but he managed to spread the sheer moral goodness of this character and how. Shahid physically was not the best fir for the part because Rajput kings are believed to be of a little taller and broader built but that did not stop the audience from rooting for his character once the film began on celluloid.
Bhansali put all his heart in Shahid’s character and he delivered such a balanced performance where he could have gone overboard in certain scenes. Too embody a character from history is not an easy acting exercise because we are talking about somebody who existed centuries ago and there are clearly not a lot of similarities in terms of living or the view of world. Shahid brought the character alive from the text by making it his own and he was nothing short of brilliant while doing it. Padmaavat has classic written all over it and anyone associated with that film in a major capacity will be written about in the history book of Hindi cinema.
