Salman Khan signs deal with Amazon Prime Video to stream his movies before they premiere on TV.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has gone ahead and signed an exclusive deal with Amazon Prime Video, giving the global streaming platform the rights to stream his movies right after their release in theaters worldwide and a good 2 months before they are actually broadcast on satellite television or any other mode of distribution. This global content deal is being hailed as one of the biggest of its kind, even though the monetary details of this have not been revealed to the public at large.

This streaming deal includes rights for all future films that Salman Khan will be featured in, in addition to films that will be produced under his banner of Salman Khan Ventures. Previously released films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick, Jai Ho, Hero and the actor’s last june release Tubelight have been included in the said deal. In December last year, Netflix, which is Amazon Prime Video’s leading opponent, signed a similar deal for the next 3 years, with the other superstar of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and his production company Red Chillies Entertainment.

Top officials and executives from Amazon Prime Video have maintained for sometime now, that India is a priority market for them and they intend to tap into it sooner rather than later. The content heads from the company have described this deal as a huge step ahead in transforming the way the Indian urban population absorbs entertainment in this country. Further adding that India’s talent and love for movies plus the passion and emotions they generate now requires a global stage so that audiences worldwide can witness it.

Salman Khan took to twitter and announced to his fans the new distribution channel through which they can now view his movies, before they even hit their television screens. Adding that ‘the real fun lies in hindi movies’.

These streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix have proven to be game-changers in the western markets and India is on the brink of benefiting from this phenomenon, that makes sure the ‘not so well known’ faces that have content ideas have a platform to showcase them.
