Sacred Games, starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui to release on Netflix on July 6

Sacred Games, the first series in the seven-planned original for Netflix is going to be released on July 6 2018. The series, which is produced by Phantom films, stars Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. Acclaimed directors, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, who co-own the production house, have directed the episodes. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra, and is about a Mumbai based cop, Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) who gets a clue from someone that could lead him to capture the notorious crime lord  Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Radhika Apte plays a crucial part in the series.

Anurag Kashyap has made movies about violence and its effects on the common people, and his sensibilities are well suited for the series’ plot and themes. Vikramaditya Motwane has made three movies, Udaan, Lootera and Trapped, all of which have had different themes and have also been critically acclaimed. It is going to be interesting to see the styles of these different directors in the episodes.

The cast is also great, with Nawazuddin playing the villain, a role he has perfected so many times. This is also going to be a new territory for Saif Ali Khan, whose recent movies have not fared well on the screen. Sacred Games will be an opportunity for the foreign consumers of Netflix to watch the series and get a taste of indie Bollywood.
