Ribbon movie review: A delicate study of modern issues

Kalki Koechlin and Sumeet Vyas star in Ribbon, a delicate study about modern issues such as Parenthood, relationships, work stress and how to deal with life when it seems that you have so much work around you, so less time. The movie is directed by Rakhee Sandilya and is a astute study of two people trying to navigate their way through the messiness of life. Even though it isn’t always successful in trying to involve all the big issues about modern relationships, but it works because it looks lived in. Sometimes actors are told to repeat the lines written by a screenwriter, and it can come out as facile, but in this movie, where the dialogue was improvised it looks organic and real.

Kalki Koechlin is perhaps the most underrated actress in Bollywood. We know that she’s brilliant in everything she does, but never appreciate her enough. Here, she’s great too, but she makes it look so efforetless that you might be mistaken for a minute that she’s acting. Sumeet Vyas is mainly known for his comedy work,  but here, he leaves it all behind to create an authentic character.

These two make the movie worth watching, but the audience should try to watch it anyway because its a wonderful examination of life in urbane cities.
