Raazi movie review: Alia Bhatt and this film are a milestone

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Raazi has hit the theaters and it is certainly one of the best film in recent times. Meghna’s first film ‘Talvar’ is a cult in the investigation genre of a real life incident. This time she adapted the novel called ‘Calling Sehmat’ which had a brilliant concept of a young female spy being married into the enemy country during 1971 war tensions of India and Pakistan. They could not have made a better choice than Alia to star in the film and deliver an astonishingly subtle performance with the greatest actors in her frame.

Vicky Kaushal is playing the male lead opposite Alia and has delivered a phenomenal performance yet again. Vicky could not really out pass his Raman Raghav 2.0 act but he came really close. It was very subtle and nuanced of him to have the kind of earnestness he portrayed on screen. He played a really soft spoken army officer who gets married to Alia initially under the influence of his elders but actually falls in love with her. The conflict experienced by his character were really hard to showcase through expressions but Kaushal managed to be beautiful yet again on screen.

Dharma Production is a whole new wave of meaningful cinema with in the mainstream and this is achieved by Karan Johar’s will to work with new voices of directors. Meghna has a very poetic rhythm to her narrative and has used the wonderful songs accordingly. She did not push any scene in the face of audience members but kept it in a flow with which one travels in the narrative. Nothing outrageously dramatic happens in the film but drama is found between the inner conflicts and scenarios that would tear anyone apart in real life. This was an Alia Bhatt show and should be seen by as many people as possible.
