Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Raazi’ is now officially a blockbuster on the box office as the film has garnered a 100 crores. Raazi was going to be a success if the film was good but nobody expected it to be such a gigantic blockbuster. It is the fifth film of 2018 in Hindi to have done that kind of number in domestic and overseas as well. Some of the other films including Baaghi 2 and Padmaavat are also huge hitters which is a clear sign that if makers come up with content that appeals to the audience and excites them enough to finally switch off instagram for 2 hours than they will go to the cinemas.
This is Alia’s third film after ‘2 States’ and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ to cross 100 crore marks and all three belong to Dharma Productions. Alia has 4 films coming with Dharma which includes Kalank and a trilogy called ‘Brahmastra’ with Ranbir Kapoor. Alia has turned out to be one of the most consistent actor and a bankable star that could bankroll films that are difficult for other actresses. Genre of the film is completely non-formulaic and big numbers were not expected but the magic has now been done.
It is rare that a great film also does phenomenal numbers but audience of this country has spoken in fairness to the content which makes them incredibly great for supporting a piece of cinema like this. Raazi has now paved way for many other content driven films which were perhaps ready to be bankrolled but not every production house is like Dharma that puts their money where their mouth is. Absolutely no producer is creating content better than Johar in Hindi cinema as he not only has embraced the new age but also an active pioneer of it in terms of consideration into the view of storytelling.
