Pinkathon coming soon

The Pinkathon, the first run of 2012 is India’s Biggest women’s run is an initiative of the United Sisters Foundation is being organised by Maximus Mice and Media Solutions Pvt Ltd. Pinkathon was started to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle for women and issues like breast cancer, is coming back with the fifth edition in the capital on September 17. Former supermodel Milind Soman, who is also the organiser of the event, says he can’t wait for it to flag off.

“We are very excited to bring Pinkathon to Delhi once again. We are confident the city and its people will support us and help make this run a success. Pinkathon is more than a Marathon. It is the seed of change and the beginning of a movement that is carried forward by a growing community of empowered women across India,” Soman told media persons here.

“Fitness is liberating. If a culture of regular exercise and fitness must take root in India, our women need to become aware about the benefits of fitness. They need to be able to get out and run, which doesn’t happen enough due to various cultural reasons,” he added.

Fifty visually impaired girls would be participating in the different category run during the event and to prepare them for the main day, unique training sessions are designed with the help and coordination of sighted runners. This running revolution started in India around the time of the 1st Marathon in 2004. Today almost every Indian city has its own version of a distance running event say of 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km.
