Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi trailer review : Paresh Rawal, Rishi Kapoor and Vir Das make cross-culture a laugh riot

Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi is an upcoming Hindi film with its hilarious trailer staring Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal. It is essentially a story of 2 neighbours, Paresh Rawal who plays Gujarati and Rishi Kapoor, a punjabi. Vir Das is the son of Rishi Kapoor, who falls in love with the daughter of Rawal and wants to get married. Rawal plays an uptight Gujarati, who refuses to understand other cultures especially Punjabi as he founds them loud and tacky. Kapoor on the other hand is raising a hand of friendship to Rawal as he deeply cares about the love of his son despite the fact that he is not too fond of Gujaratis.

The theme of cross-culture pollination in films have been recurring since 1950’s and works because it shows the unremitting reality of India. As the country is hugely diverse, people are afraid of this idea of other, someone who is not of their tribe is other and that leads to comedy of errors in this film. Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi targets the family audience as it is a clean entertainer, which will clear the censors without a blow.

It is a good year for family entertainers as Bareilly ki Barfi and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha have been doing phenomenally at the box office and also garnering wide acclaim from the critics. Success of these films sets up a level of positivism in the minds of audience for the film of the same genre, which are going to be released in the future. Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi will release on 15 September, 2017.
