Supreme Court has now dismissed the plea for the total ban or the stay of release for the movie Padmavati, stating that before the Censor Board takes any decision regarding the movie, they can’t interfere. The petition was put forth by lawyer ML Sharma who were seeking a ban or a stay on the release of the movie because of its “assumed” distortion of history, even though they haven’t watched it yet, but the Supreme Court has commented that it won’t take any further measures against Padmavati, until at least CBCF announces its decision about what to do with the movie.
Padmavati has already been banned in Madhya Pradesh, again, because its assumed distortion of history and the protests by the Karni Sena and other fringe groups, none of whose members have seen anything from the movie, except the trailer and two songs.
The Karni Sena has stated that its sentiments have been hurt by the movie, as it shows Rani Padmavati as a dancer, even though she would never have danced in front of anyone. Whereas,a select group of people who have actually seen the movie have said that they don’t see anything offending in the movie, and it’ll actually make the chest of Rajputs heave with pride and happiness. But nothing has persuaded the Rajput leaders yet, who’re plainly making death threats against Deepika Padukone, who plays Padmavati and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, its director.
The CBFC recently reject the makers appeal to expedite the screening of the movie, and have said that it;ll have to wait for its turn, meanwhile, the country burns in protests from the four corners.
