Padman is collecting good money on box office despite of it’s content which is basically a taboo in Indian society and film is trying to break it’s stereotype. Padman recording one of the worst opening of Akshay’s career in last 3 years as it banked 10.26 crores on Friday. Since the word of mouth around the film is quite good, collections seemed to be escalating in a good ratio as the film garnered a healthy 13.68 crores on box office. Collections are not as per they seem according to Akshay’s stardom but it is not that bad either.
On Sunday film took a good leap and earned 16.11 crores, which is not the best case as Padman was a solo release on 9 February as far as Hindi films are concerned and it barely had any competition as Padmaavat is also running in it’s third week now but collecting decent coin. For a reason, producers kept the budget of Padman in control and did not let it go far beyond 25 crores because they knew collections will not be as high as Toilet Ek Prem Katha or Airlift in this one.
To acquire collections of 120+ crores, family audience needs to jump in the theater wit some of repeat crowd but in the case of Padman, it is difficult for the family to sit together and watch this film because it is a cliche in this country that a sanitary pad is a bad thing and no one should actually speak about it which is why only 12 percent of the Indian female population use sanitary pads. Taboo is not only in the rural areas but big cities as well where woman do not enter temples during their periods and hence the collections of the film are perhaps not going to touch the 100 crore mark which is a consistent number for Akshay.
