Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Padman’ has finally crossed the 50 crore mark on the end of first Tuesday which is not bad for a film which has made and released somewhere on the cost of 26 crores approximately but Akshay Kumar has not seen collections this low since August of 2015. Akshay is not the biggest star in Hindi film industry but he is certainly the most consistent as far as the collection are concerned as most of his films in last 5 years have done the business of approximately 120 crores, which is very good because his budgets are quite low.
Padman is definitely an alternate content film but so was Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and it ended up doing 132 crores nett in India against a modest budget of 40 crores. Periods and sanitary pads are still a taboo in India and a film on it is barely going to scratch the surface as the root of this problem is very old and one single attempt to vacate it will not remove it entirely but the effort from Akshay Kumar is commendable on this front because he must be knowing that this film will not be able to earn some great coin.
Padman opened to 10.26 crores on Friday and ended up doing about 40 crores by the end of weekend with Sunday being the highest as film banked 16.11 crores on that day. Padman was merely a single weekend film because come Monday, collections dropped immediately to 5.87 crores. Padman has about 3 more days to go till Aiyaari knocks up on the upcoming Friday with the bunch of other films from Hollywood that will certainly be able to sabotage Padman completely. On Tuesday film had an unexpected rise when it earned 6.12 crores and Wednesday will be more because of Valentine’s day and Shivratri which is an important holiday. Padman will not do 100 crores on box office but the effort is being appreciated.
