Omerta, starring Rajkummar Rao release delayed, the movie will now come out on May 4 2018

The release date of Omerta,  starring Rajkummar Rao and directed by Hansal Mehta, has been delayed. The movie was scheduled to release tomorrow, but for undisclosed reasons, has been pushed back to next month. Omerta is based on the life of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who is British terrorist, from Pakistani descent. He was arrested for the kidnappings of the western tourists in India, and was then again, when he was convicted of plotting the murder of Daniel Pearl, a wall street journalist in 2002. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and even though the reactions weren’t overly enthusiastic, Rajkummar’s performance in the movie was universally acclaimed by the critics.

In recent interviews, the actor has gone into detail about his process of getting into the character of the notorious terrorist, and it seems that he really did commit to playing an evil man, without making him sympathetic, and neither just reducing him to a monster.

The change in dates of the movie isn’t alarming, as sometimes it is done to avoid clash from other movies. The movie is already based on a sensitive subject, and could easily generate some controversy, since stories based on terrorist are seldom received warmly by the audiences. But, Rajkumar has steadily rising in the audiences consciousness, and all his movies last year were considered success, and with the acclaim that he has gotten for this role, people will be interested in checking it just for it.
