The first poster for Omerta, starring Rajkumar Rao has been released. The movie is directed by acclaimed director, Hansal Mehta, and Rajkumar Rao is going to portray the role of the notorious terrorist, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who hailed from Pakistan, but was born in England. He was responsible for Kidnapping westerners in India in 1994, and also had a crucial role in plotting the murder of Daniel Pearl, a wall street journalist, in 2002. He is currently serving time in prison, with a life sentence. Rajkumar has said that playing Amar was one of the most difficult things in his career.
The movie has been screen in several film festivals, including Toronto Film Festival 20017, where, even though it had a lukewarm reception, Rajkumar’s performances was critically acclaimed by the critics. From the reviews, it can be gleaned that the movie doesn’t give a nuanced look into what made Amar become a terrorist, and treats his behavior rather superficially.
Along with the first poster, the trailer is going to be released in two days, and even though the movie has not been recieved as enthusiastically, it will be good to see another great performance by Rajkumar, who has become one of the most versatile and dependable actors in the Bollywood industry. Omerta is going to be released on 20 April 2018. Previously, Hansal Mehta directed Kangana Ranaut in Simran, another movie which didn’t do well commercially or critically, but in which her performance was praised by the critics.
