Nene Raju Nene Mantri is a Telugu action-drama staring Rana Daggubati. Telugu cinema is essentially driven by action which always comes with an emotion of good vs evil. There are no shades of grey or real people in the film, story echoes every other film in which an underdog gets toe to toe with a wealthy evil and beats him up with muscle power. Hindi audience in 1970’s was a very big fan of this genre which gave rise to Amitabh Bachchan’s angry young man that connected with lower economical class youth. Rana Daggubati does the same thing in 2017 and it works for a particular section of the audience. Every film should be judged on its merit rather than comparing it with Citizen Kane.
Film delivers everything which is shown in the trailer and more. Post Baahubali Daggubati’s success rate has folded a million times and makes right use of it by selling his demeanor in the way audience wants it. Daggubati plays Jogendra whose wife (Kajal Aggarwal) gets killed and from that point he aspires political hopes. Jogendra is a one man army who delivers tight punch dialogues and actual punches. Film’s ability to bind the audience is openly dependent on Daggubati’s ability to play it for the gallery, film does not have as much action in comparison to explosive dialogues.
Jogendra aspires to be the Chief Minister and would go to any distance for the same even if it means threatening the CM in his own residence. Story line and screenplay are just there to sort of keep a narrative and rather fill the gaps between action scenes. Daggubati maintains an interesting aura throughout the film which is the exact requirement to be a mass hero like Thala. To shout out dialogues and amplify the background score is the main demand of this film which is fulfilled to every context by the director. Overall the film has good mass appeal and should work for the audience.
