Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Manto’ to premier at Cannes film festival

Directed by Nandita Das, ‘Manto’ has been a long haul as far as completion of film is concerned because the makers are taking their own sweet time to get it according to the director’s vision. Nawaz took to social media account and announced that film will be premiering in Cannes film festival under ‘Uncertain Regard’ section. Odds are that Nandita Das completed the entire film and she will be showcasing the full version since post production has been going on it for a while now. Nawaz is playing the lead role of a celebrated writer ‘Saadat Hasan Manto’, who is known for writing thought provoking anti-establishment plays.

Manto spent his whole life fighting against the corrupt system through his writing which resonated with a lot of people and now he is thought at every leading drama school in the country. There is a hardly a professional theater personality in the country who has not done a act written by Manto. Beauty of his writing is that he is somehow still relevant with the content he produced years ago when the times were apparently different.

This one’s not going to fall in any biopic of a personality because they tend to magnify the enigma and less humanization takes place. Das and Nawaz will perhaps try to encompass a lifetime of mistakes and gallantry that is achieved by Manto through his impeccable view on the matter concerning society. Manto was as imaginative as critical which is the fence most people can’t climb. Uncertain Regard is the section of Cannes where only few films of celebrated makers are selected to be screened since it is away from the competition. When a film wins some award in Cannes it almost overshadows the other films as the break out one but this section is purely to respect the work that deserves subjective point of views.
