Tamil superstar Vijay celebrates his 42nd birthday today on June 22, but celebrations began last evening when the makers of his next film Mersal, released the first look posters of the film with Vijay fans on social media going hysterical with excitement. Vijay’s next venture was being referred to as Vijay 61 for the longest time now ever since the film was announced, so the actual title finally coming to the forefront was special for the fans of the actor.
Mersal’s director Atlee took to his twitter account yesterday evening to wish the actor on the eve of his birthday and put out the first look poster from the film with his tweet. He wrote, ” Here’s comes my b’day gift to Vijay na. #Mersal #HBDMersalVijay” Later at midnight, the director tweeted another poster from the film, adding to the celebratory mode Vijay fans were already in.

Mersal is touted to be Vijay’s most expensive film to date and is being produced under the banner of Thenandal Entertainment as their 100th film. The film will showcase Vijay playing three characters; one as a Panchayat head fighting for farmers’ rights, a doctor and a magician. While the first poster gives us Vijay in a rustic and rural avatar, the second poster which unveils the look of the magician’s character in the film is said to be the main comic relief element in the movie. The film has three female leads: Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha and Nithya Menen; all adding to the glamour quotient of Mersal. A.R Rehman has been roped in as the music composer.
This will be Vijay’s second collaboration with director Atlee after giving Tamil cinema the blockbuster film Theri in 2016, therefore the expectations from this combo now are sky-high. The film is suppose to have an extravagant music release function scheduled around August, while Mersal’s release has been confirmed for Diwali this year which will be sometime around October.
