Karni sena calls ‘Janta Curfew’ over Padmaavat release

Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmaavat has actually found a release date on 25 January but troubles are far from ever. Rajput group Karni sena has now decided to call protest all over the country on the day of Padmaavat release by the name of janta curfew to stop the release. Due to Karni sena’s radical protests the release of once Padmavat’i’ was stalled indefinitely has Censor Board of Film Certification did not deemed it fit to pass the film from their end. After a long haul with politicians and Censor Padmaavat was passed with a U/A certificate and necessary surgery by also changing it’s name to Padmaavat.

Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi has now asked Karni Sena followers around the country to literally organise a curfew on the release day. Even after all the necessary legal precautions of releasing a film being cleared by Padmaavat, Karni Sena simply wants the film to be never showcased as they think that the film is twisting history. The disclaimer before any film says that this film is a work of fiction and one of the fundamental human rights is the right to freedom of expression. Which clearly indicates that history is open to interpretation and Padmaavat is not even a historical anymore.

Padmaavat is based on 16 century sufi poetry Padmaavat written by Malik Mohammad Jayasi about the Chittor queen Padmini, who may or may not have existed as the historians are clearly divided on it. Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh government has already banned the film from releasing in their respective states and Karni Sena is looking at more states to ban the film. Padmaavat is a 200 crore film which is 50 more than Tiger Zinda Hai so it needs as many as audience as possible just to recover the budget and no one will travel out of their respective states to go and watch a film in cinema theater.
