Kalaakaandi box office: Extremely poor performance by the numbers

Saif Ali Khan’s stardom is on an all time low and does not seem to get better even with the favorable reviews of the film. Saif’s latest film is proving to be a disaster on the box office as the film opened to mere 1.25 crore on Friday. This kind of number is unprecedented for a mainstream commercial star who has been working in the films for quarter of a century. It’s been a while since Saif has seen some numbers on box office as his film with Vishal Bhardwaj titled Rangoon tanked at the box office and so did his last outing Chef.

Collections of Chef ended at less than 7 crores lifetime and Kaalakaandi could only manage to bank 1.20 crore on Saturday. Saif does not really have a competition on the box office as Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz stars Vineet Singh in the lead role who is taking a centered role for the first time in a feature film. 1921 is a total non star cast and bad reviews though it has a total recall value of 1920, which was a highly mediocre film to begin with. More than Saif, Kaalakaandi is a multi-starrer and still can’t hook the people in.

On Sunday the film banked 1.40 crore and the first weekend eneded on a total of 3.85 crore. Film has a total window of 12 whole days to recover the budget as 19 January is not a big weak at the movies. On 25 Padman and Padmaavat is releasing and it will be next to impossible for any film to even be in cinemas and get some shows. Collections of the film only go down after the first weekend and it seems that Kaalakaandi will less than Saif’s Chef which was a disaster in the first place. Saif’s performance level might have increased but audience is sure going down. He is currently shooting for Netflix mega production Scared Games which is a web series directed by Vikram Aditya Motwane.
