Honey Bee 2.5 movie review : A reality of films in a film which is not real

Honey Bee 2.5 is a Malayalam comedy thriller directed by Lal Jr. Honey Bee 2.5 is the sequel to 2013 release Honey Bee. Honey Bee was a superhit because it was made under the budget of 4 crores and grossed more than 12 crores on the box office. Despite the fact that Honey Bee got mixed reviews from the audience the makers decided to go ahead with the sequel. Honey Bee retained it’s director and most of the star cast with some additional members into it. Asif Ali played the lead role in the film like its predecessor with rest of the star cast. Like the part 1, Honey Bee 2.5 has more of comedy and very less of thrilling elements in the plot.

The core structure of the film which is a film about making a film remains but this one lacked the heart and freshness like the last part. It happens with most of the sequels that they just start mimicking everything that worked in the first part and slay down the audience with nostalgia. VIP 2 which is a sequel to 2014 VIP has also mixed reviews yet the collections are there because of audience’s fascination about the part1. Story and screenplay of Honey Bee 2.5 lacks depth and originality but it sure has some substance in it.

Lal Jr’s direction and shot taking are well upto the point and experiments with color and monochrome is a little bit more than Honey Bee. Film is content driven and not a waste sequel but to continue the story to part 3 can be an issue. Considering that Malayalam cinema is on the rise with Premam and Solo other film makers also need to buckle up. Honey Bee 2.5 is watchable if you are a fan of the first part.
