Irrfan Khan starrer ‘Hindi Medium’ has released in China to impeccable box office numbers and gathered nearly 42 crores on Day 1 beating ‘Dangal’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. Collections are growing strongly on the box office and on Friday film managed to gather $6.04 million in the country. China has three times the cinema exhibition system than India and ‘Hindi Medium’ is still a limited release in accordance to that. Several Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Ready Player One’ end up gathering ten times the collection of Indian films in China because they have an established audience base which Hindi films is growing.
In it’s three days run so far, film has banked 102.29 crores on the box office which is 30 cores more than it’s final Indian lifetime collections. In India, Hindi Medium was considered a superhit for earning 70 odd crores against it’s limited budget but Indian market is really nothing in comparison to China. Aamir’s ‘Dangal’ grossed not more than 400 crores in India against the 1300 crores in China making it the biggest hit of all time in the history of Indian cinema. Aamir is the one who opened the market of Hindi films in China with the blockbuster success of his 2009 release ‘3 Idiots’.
Post that Salman Khan went into cash in on the market with his career biggest blockbuster ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ as it did nearly 300 crores in China and still counting. Hindi Medium is a highly content driven film, the likes of which don’t get made a whole lot in Hindi films hence if a market like China is able to given them the earnings than more producers might want to take the chance. China is nothing but good news to Film industry in India and has the power to make it bigger than India ever could. Chinese arrangement of films and collections is the use of population done right.
