Goli Soda 2, directed by Vijay Milton, and starring P. Samuthirakani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Chemban Vinod Jose, is the sequel to Goli Soda, which was released in 2014. It tells the story of three friends, who are beginning their lives again with better means, until a mishaps causes them to lose everything they had earned. The movie is violent, intense and will keep you gripped until the very end. The plot twists, and dramatic moments are powerful enough to leave the theater in silence. The first half of the movie is tighter, and better, and it does lose momentum and becomes melodramatic in the second, but that doesn’t weaken the story from its powerful ending.
It is also a more overtly political story than before, as the plot involves how politically empowered people manipulate, Siva, who is an auto driver. Maaran (Bharath Seeni) gets a more emotional plot point of love and sacrifice his life as a criminal gangster. Theme of castesim in the love story of Oli (Esakki Bharath) and Madhi (Krisha Kurup) is also evoked with much sensitivity.
The movie can be a little heavy handed with all the themes and plot points, and it surely seems that it wants to be a message movie rather than an entertaining one. And even if some of the points are made with a light touch, others are just heavy handed and unnecessary. Still, its the performances of the actors that keep you interested in the movie. It is their enthralling chemistry and the ability to perform dramatic scenes with ease that is going to blow people’s mind. Vijay also directs them with care, so there are no over dramatic acting set pieces in which an actor showcases his feelings. If you want to watch an emotional, dramatic, and well acted movie, this one is for you.
