Diljit Dosanjh’s Sajjan Singh Rangroot is set to have the widest release for a Punjabi film in India. The movie, which is directed by the Pankaj Batra, is about the Sikh regiment during the World War, and explores the experiences and trauma of Sajjan Singh who was a sepoy in the British Indian Army. When the trailer was released, it generated a lot of talk about the movie, and it got an overwhelmingly positive response from the audiences, who praised the visuals and the exploration of a subject that is hardly ever portrayed in Indian mainstream cinema.
Rangroot is going to openat 414 screens, at 325 locations across India by the Omjee Group, and is also being released Internationally, in 240 screens. It is going to be the first Punjabi movie to get a release in Russia, on May 18 2018.
Diljit, who has become one of the most popular, singer/actors in India, has said that the movie is a dream project for him, and it also looks like the utmost care and craft as gone into making the movie. It also shows that the makers have confidence in the movie that they have taken the unusual steps to ensure that the movie receives the widest possible release. It could also mean that the movie could be a breakout hit, if it gets good reviews and people like the story.
