Chunkzz review: This Malayalam comedy is all set to hit cinema theatres now. The film has been written and directed by Omar Lulu who made his directorial debut with the film Happy Wedding in 2016. And the director tasted sweet success in his first attempt at direction. Riding on the same high, he has come forward with Chunkzz this year, which has been produced by Vaishak Rajan. This comic ride will be clashing with two other films at the Malayalam box office which is Sarvopari Palakkaran starring Anoop Menon and Aparna Balamurali and the other one being Varnyathil Aashanka starring Kunchacko Boban in the lead among others.
Chunkzz is a simple comedy at heart that stars Balu Varghese, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Ganapathi, Vishak Nair and actress Honey Rose playing the lead roles among other supporting casts. The film follows the college life of engineering students who are in their last year of college. Being in the mechanical stream, these boys (Romario, Riyas, Yoodas and Athmaram) are dejected at the dearth of girls in their class. There is not a single female which at first leaves them miserable, but soon, much to their luck and joy, a new girl joins this all boys class. She is Riya (Honey Rose) who eventually becomes friends with these guys. Riya is named the ‘Mechrani’ of the college owing to her being the solo girl student in the mechanical stream. Boys desperate to get her attention, begin flirting with her at any given opportunity, which is also the comic elements of the film.
Owing to its young and fresh appeal, the film is sure to attract a lot of youngsters to the cinema halls. The story telling is kept simple and the comic parts are the portions in the film that the youth will connect to. The performances of all the lead actors are up to par with none of them exceptionally standing out. The supporting cast involving Lal, Siddique and Marina Micheal has not much to do. The director Omar Lulu is at ease with the script and that shows in the direction. The music of the film is a let down which could have otherwise elevated Chunkzz’s movie watching experience. The film will be at a theatre near you from August 4.
