Bank Chor: Weekend box office collection stands at a disappointing 4.34 crore

Bank Chor, Yash Raj Films’ comedy thriller starring Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi in the lead has failed to impress at the box office. The film managed to earn a dismal 4.34 crores over the course of its first weekend. The film has been directed by Bumpy and produced by Ashish Patil ( of Y-Films) for distribution under the Yash Raj banner. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the details about the film’s day-wise box office collection. Bank Chor opened on friday June 16 with 1.40 crore. The film couldn’t pick up on saturday with Day 2 collection restricted to 1.66 crore. And then came Sunday, which witnessed the India Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy Final match and understandably so, the film suffered. Despite the holiday, Bank Chor couldn’t collect more than 1.28 crore, taking the three day weekend total to 4.34 crore at the Indian box office.

Apart from Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi, who have starred together in multiple comedies before, the film also stars Rhea Chakraborty, Bhuvan Arora, Sahil Vaid and Vikram Thapa as the supporting cast. This bank heist comedy opened to reviews ranging from average to ‘ big-bore’ but spared the lead actors Riteish and Vivek, owing to their decent performances along with the supporting cast. The film is about how Champak (Riteish) and a couple of his friends’ plan to rob a bank goes awfully wrong. And things further go out of hand when a powerful cop (Vivek) steps in to the picture.

The film released across 700 screens nationwide and the makers chose not to release the film overseas, which now looks like an economical and wise decision. Y-Films, which is a subsidiary company of Yash Raj Films, is headed by Ashish Patil and is a youth targeted start-up, that aims at content “of the youth, for the youth and by the youth”.
