BAFTA nominations are announced and Del Toro’s The Shape of Water leads the pack with 12 whole nominations in almost all the major categories. The Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri come in second place with 9 nominations each. Dunkirk, Call me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri are the ones nominated for best film. The Darkest Hour is also able to get a nomination in outstanding British film category as well. British film Lady Macbeth has got some nominations in the important categories such as outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer and outstanding British film as well.
Angelina Jolie’s First They Killed My Father and Asghar Farhadi’s The Salesman got nominated in Best film not in the English Language category. Extremely hyped documentary City of Ghosts and I Am Not Your Negro got nominated in Best Documentary category and deservingly so. Pixar’s Golden Globe winner Coco is nominated in Best Animated Film category with Loving Vincent and My Life as a Courgette. Denis Villeneuve is nominated in Best director category for Blade Runner 2049 with Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk and prolific Guillermo Del Toro for his instant classic The Shape of Water.
luca Guadagnino for Call Me by Your Name and Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri are also nominated for Best Director. Get Out and I, Tonya got their nominations in Best Original Screenplay which also includes a nomination for Lady Bird. Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut Molly’s Game found a nomination in Best Adapted Screenplay category eventually honoring him for his writing. Brilliant Daniel Day Lewis got his final acting nomination in best Actor category for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread. As obvious as it was Gary Oldman shows up in Best actor for Darkest Hour as Winston Churchill. BAFTA will premiere on Sunday 18 February.
