Baahubali 2 : On its way to a record-breaking Day 1 at the box office

Baahubali 2 : On its way to a record-breaking Day 1 at the box office

Barring a few previews held in limited cities on Thursday evening, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, opened in theaters worldwide on Friday, 28th April to packed cinema halls. This movie boasts of having the biggest and widest release for an Indian film with around 9000 screens worldwide and made on a massive budget of 250 crores. The film (in all its versions) is on its way to becoming the biggest opener ever on a non-holiday. The first Baahubali edition earned approximately 650 cr gross at the box- office worldwide in its lifetime.

The film seems to have lived upto the massive fan expectations and the hysteria surrounding its release. The advance booking for the film saw tremendous potential for it to make Rs. 100 crore (gross ) worldwide, on Day 1 itself. Is that a possibility? Let us see.

Down south, Baahubali 2 is experiencing close to 100% occupancy, with a few glitches in the state of Tamil Nadu, where the morning shows were unexpectedly cancelled due to a financial settlement issue between the distributor and producers of the film. But everything is on track now from the 12 PM shows. There were similar issues in Kerala too, which seem to have cleared now.

Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst tweeted:

Baahubali (Hindi) is expected to rake in approx. 36 crores (gross), while the telugu, tamil and malayalam language shows which are massively pre booked are expected to make around 44 crore gross. As far as the overseas collection is concerned, USA alone has about 1100 screens and the rest of the world has the film being showcased in roughly 1400 screens. So the Day 1 collection abroad is being predicted to be around the 22 crore gross mark. Now you do the math. For your understanding, the net collections of the film are the money collected at the ticket counters all over (gross) minus the entertainment tax that needs to be paid to the government.

So yes, Rs. 100 crore (gross) on Day 1 worldwide is what the trade experts are looking at. Let us wait and watch if Baahubali 2 reaches that magic figure.
